fuck earth day!
Earth Day. The forgotten and uncared about holiday made to remind the few ppl who already care, of how much we take for granted and how much more we could be giving back. And for those who don’t care, to at least do the basics like making sure your gum wrapper makes it into the trash can or that soda cans can be recycled and maybe they should try that out.
But what about the rest, like talking about where our food and clothes come from and about the actual real life solutions to everyday problems that we face, that amazing people have come up with, but that we don’t mass produce like we do our iphones and computers.
We post pictures of trees and oceans but they just look like everyday postcard pictures to us. Where’s the real appreciation for the earth? It’s not outside, its all around you.
From what your wearing, to what your sitting on right now. All the plastic around you, and the wood and metal in everything you touch. Everything that you put into your mouth. All the jars and boxes in your cabinets and cotton in your clothes.
That’s the earth, and every single person around you has it with them everyday, but never thinks twice. Appreciate it because if you do the math, all those ingredients came from the earth and the cost is not just what you overpaid at the store, it’s a lot bigger than that.
And now it’s a question of when the people who are still struggling with weather or not you can recycle pizza boxes and how many dollars they can get back from their Coke addiction, are going to see that it takes more than Facebook liking pictures of trees today to appreciate the earth.
